WHAT IS PSAT?

What is the PSAT and why is it important?

THe PSAT/NMSQT is essentially a test that preps students for the SAT and even ACT to a certain degree. The scores of PSAT may also be used to identify scholarship opprtunities. The PSAT is a multiple choice test that tests students on Math, Reading and Writing.

The results of this test does not count towards college admission requirements, but it serves as good practice for SAT and ACT.

Students are able to take PSATs every year in October.

About the SAT

The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil and papertest that is administered by the College Board. Colleges that do require the SAT will take into consideration the standardized test scores along with the high school GPA, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, along with extracurricular activities and all other aspects that college admissions looks at.

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board. 

The higher you score, the more likely you are able to have more options for college related to you. 

Overall, the higher you score on the SAT and/or ACT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you.

When should I take the SAT?

Usually students will take the SAT during the spring of their junior year and as well as fall of their senior year. SAT tests are being administered in August, October, November and December during the fall and March, May and June in the Spring.

SAT vs. ACT

Colleges and universities usually accept scores from either the SAT or ACT as there is no preference for one test over another. Students who are college bound are more likely to take both the SAT and the ACT. With the changes made to SAT in 2016, prepping for both exams at the same time is much easier than before.

About the ACT

The ACT is a multiple-choice test administered by ACT, Inc. Colleges that do require ACT scores will be taken into consideration these scores alongside all of the other requirements for college entrance.

When should I take the ACT?

High school students will take these exams during the spring of their Junior year and the fall of their Senior year. It's important to take it earlier so that there's time to re-take the test if needed. The ACT test is offered every year in September, October and December during the fall and February, April, June and July in the spring. 

What is on the ACT?

There are four sections on the ACT: 

  • English
  • Reading
  • Math
  • Science

The ACT also includes an optional 40-minute Writing Test. Some colleges may require that you complete the ACT Writing Test.
