Cadet Alums
JROTC is a valuable experience in the lives of Blair students who participate.
Cadets may, if they choose, use JROTC as a stepping stone to the military. This can include promotion to Private First Class after Basic training, university with scholarships as a ROTC cadet, or one of the service academies. We have had a Blair cadet graduate from West Point, and several recent cadets are still serving in the military. These include Hector Lara (Army), Julio Camara (Army), Gisselle Garcia (Marines), Krista Keyrouz (Army Reserves), Omar Paz (National Guard), Jose Galicia (Army), Marivel Serrano (Navy), Saul Lopez (Army), David Lopez (Army), Francisco Leyva (Marines) and Joshua Felix (Marines). Many others already gave their service and are now members of the community.
Steph Munguia, Blair Class of 2016, earned an International Baccalaureate Diploma AND was JROTC Battalion Commander at Blair. She graduated from UCLA in 2020 with a B.S. in Psychobiology and says JROTC made her a competitive candidate for good colleges. Her JROTC Senior Instructor was 1SG Turner. "He was a big reason I managed to stay out of trouble in high school...He always told me I was better than I gave myself credit for, and continued to push me past my comfort zone so I credit him for the confidence I have today."
