El baile es vida - Dance is life

SOY DE POEMA - DE DONDE VENGO

I am from baleadas
I am of noisy rivers and calm tides
I am from where we are more humanists than feminists
I'm from where you hear punta catracha.

I am from huaraches and blanket dresses
I'm from where they dance typical dances like the Cadena
I'm from a place surrounded by mountains
I'm from where the government hurts the country, but the people love their country.

I'm from where I had to travel miles to be here
I am from where my reason is more important than that of others
I'm from cookies and ice cream
I'm from stuffed chiles
I am where the bad makes you appreciate the good.
I am from where you suffer but you also laugh out loud
I am from beautiful beaches and ruins
I'm from Honduras where people fall every day, but always ALWAYS GET UP.

How and why did I come to this country?

Hello my name is Yaquelin. I want to tell you the story of how I came to this country from Honduras, my home.

It was a normal day and I was trying to get to school in the neighboring village since there is no school in the village where I lived. I had already spoken with the teacher and they were going to accept me, but the next day my mom told me that we would be migrating to the USA. It was very difficult since I would be leaving my friends and family behind. I spent the whole day lying down thinking about traveling or not. I went to my grandmother's house to talk to her. We talked until it was dark. I knew that it was best for me to migrate to the U.S.A.

The first time we left Honduras we spent fifteen days traveling, but we were caught in Mexico by immigration, and we were locked up for two days until they sent us to Honduras again. We were there for a week and we traveled again, but this time immigration from the United States caught us. At the time they were allowing mothers with minors in and that is how we managed to get here ...

It was difficult for me to assimilate in this country where I did not  know the language or culture. With the help of my family and teachers I am already adapting and I am appreciating the opportunity that I have of studying.
